Behind the Shot:
Couples at the Altar
So the time has come when everything has fallen into place. The bride is no longer stressing, the groom actually knows whats going on, and everyones eyes are locked on them, standing together at the altar. This is the prime time to get some emotion packed shots of the couple, gazing into each others eyes. These are some make it or break it shots that you need to have when you give your finished product to your client.
Now, the biggest difficulty to getting these kind of shots that will boost your portfolio is yourself. You need to be a fearless and confident photographer. There should be nothing that gets in your way regarding the shots that you want to get. You're there to capture the bride and grooms day so they can remember it, and their families can remember it for generations to come. You have a right to stand where you please to get the great shots. If you're a mousey photographer that gets stage fright, you may not be in the right industry.
By getting upfront and close to the couple during the ceremony, you not only get the shots that you need, but you're also seen by everyone thats attending. That can be a scary thought for some. What if I'm in someones way? What if I look stupid? I'd like to answer your question with another question. What if you miss a shot and your client is unhappy? When you're shooting somebodies wedding, that should be the only thing to cross your mind. You need to put all that stage fright behind you and get up to the front of the venue. Good shots happen you get up close. And besides, if you're seen, whats the worst that can happen? Someone pulling you aside at the reception to tell you that they want to book you for their upcoming wedding? Seriously, get up there, get close, get the shot.
